Polybond Swimming Pool Paint For Concrete and Painted Pools - Paddling Pools Tanks - Showers - Decorative Ponds May also be used on render, brickwork, wood and metal surfaces around the pool. Surface Preparation Surfaces must be clean and dry before commencing work. New Concrete Laitence, mould release oils & dirt must be removed by scrubbing the surface with dilute Hydrochloric Acid or Polybond Concrete Cleaner. This process removes various insoluble salts and neutralizes the concrete surface from alkalis. Wash down thoroughly with fresh water & allow to dry completely. Painted Concrete After draining down Remove all areas of loose paint & scrape back to a firm edge looking carefully at old paint behind which water may be trapped. Any damaged area of concrete or render should be hacked back & made good followed by patch priming and treating as new concrete. Cracks and voids should be filled with a cement based filler. The remaining paintwork should be scrubbed with a detergent solution or sugar soap to remove all surface contamination including body fats which collect at the water line. Glossy surfaces should be abraded to a matt finish. Wash with fresh water & leave to dry completely. Note A special water based barrier coat is available for difficult surfaces i.e. Constantly damp substrates. Please contact our Technical Department for further details. Match the batch numbers on all paint purchased to ensure continuity of colour & re-order reference. Take Care When Attempting to coat: 1. Unknown paint of more than 3 - 4 years old. 2. Old pools subjected to heavy chemical usage, particularly heated outdoor pools. 3. Multy coats of paint without the painting history. Removal of old paint by shotblasting may be                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                  necessary. If in doubt, contact our technical department for advice. 4. Pools in hot direct sunlight. Choose a cooler time of day or thin the paint down to avoid blistering. Steelwork This should be abraded or shotblast to bare metal and primed immediately with our C.R. Zinc Phosphate Primer then overcoated with Swimming Pool Paint. Application New Concrete & Porous Surfaces A Three coat system is recommended as follows: Stir thoroughly before use. Dilute the paint with approximately 10% of Polybond Thinners No.1 and use as a priming coat. Apply this with a  brushmedium to soft broom to ensure maximum penetration. After 24 hours apply a full bodied coat. Wait a further 24 hours then apply a final coat to finish. Apply the paint using a brush, roller or spray. Brush For brush application use a medium to soft brush or broom is good for the base of the pool. Do not work the paint too vigorously into previous coats. Roller Use a short piled roller and avoid overworking the paint which can produce bubbles.Thinning may be necessary. Paint corners & joints etc. with a brush. Spay For spray application allow 6 hours drying between coats. Be careful of overspray. Always wear a mask and appropriate safety equipment. Thinning is required. Non Slip Additives may be applied to the base of the pool & steps etc. These are normally applied in excess to the wet paint, removing the surplus when dry & overcoating to finish. Painted Concrete Most previously painted pools can be overcoated with Polybond Swimming Pool Paint however if in doubt about an old painted surface it is advisable to apply a patch to the old paint below the existing waterline or on the bottom if the pool is empty. The patch must be immersed in water for at least  a week. If bubbling of the paint or pin holing* occurs then the old paint must be removed back to a sound substrate. Contact our Technical Department if you are at all unsure about the condition of the surface. *The appearance of minute holes in the surface. Refilling Leave the paint to dry for 3 - 4 days in Summer before refilling the pool, longer during Winter months.  Ensure proper dispersion of pool chemicals at all times.
